Hi Steve ................ Did you ever get round to measuring the shafts for me ???????
from where do you want them measuring from, as ideally, you would want a measurement from the shoulder of which the bearing sits against to do every thing accurately.

where did you want them measured from, - the bearing shoulder to the end
diagonally from the flange.

they will give you 42 inch wide centred pinion.
i think

i do actually know for sure, as my axle with discs is 43.5 inches - the long shaft is the same, you minus 40mm = inch and a half from the short to centre the pinon 40mm - 1.5 inches - 43.5 - 1.5 = 42
