The plaster & vermiculite are used to make the mould/buck lighter!
The first one Ed Roth did, was made from only plaster, should imagine it weighed a ton!!

Shape the body, using surform file & sandpaper.
Doesn't have to be super smooth.
Lay-up the fiberglass (usual gelcoat & wax)
Lift off the shell and spend a couple of days knocking the plaster & vermiculite out!!

Downside (or upside!!) is, there is only one body.

and is that fibreglass shell then used for the body , or used as a mould ?

Mounting brackets etc. are then glassed inside the body.

That becomes the body, you finish the outside of the fibregalss, as it were!

Blown for me, to my measurements.
1100mm diameter & 450mm high, not a full hemisphere.

If so how's the mix sticking to at?
