Thinking of getting some G78x15 tyres for my chevy, are Bias tyres any good or am i better off sticking with radials.Love the look of Bias (and the price ) but is the ride and handling much different?
I'm running a warmed up 235 straight 6 so not exactly a performance 55
Cheers
Neil they ride well and look great. Can suffer from tramlining especially on the rutted motorway inside lanes. What I hated most was turning the steering wheel on a damp road but still going straight on...
Traction was never their strong point.
Just need a little respect.
They do look good Steve and cheaper than ww radials, just wondered if they were shite or not.
Thought i'd ask here as i've been told they're not much different to radials, then others have said crap don't touch em,glad i asked now :incheek:msl:
Cheers guys, but i do like them still
Mike they don't seem too pricey, well for over here anyway £120 +vat
I have a set on my 55 Ford, but it hasn't been on the road yet to be able to comment first hand, however I was told by someone in the know who said that they have the worst traits of radials and crossplies! Look neat though.
When I drove down the East coast we had bias plies. No problems at all, even in the rain. HAndling was far lighter than with the radial I have over here. If you are not intending to race the car, and just cruise around, I would go for the bias belted.
Bias ply is what septics call cross plys. But the G78 type (alpha numeric?) tires should not be confused with 8.20 x 15 type, I've had both and the G78's drove better (more radialy) than 8.20. Not as tram liney and better cornering.
My choice would be as follows.
Full size car (your Chev) G78 type
Hot rod 8.20x15 type
Dayly motor Capri,Escort,Cortina,Anglia type thing radials.
The few modern cars (post 1985ish) that Ive driven with low profiles on em felt like they tramlined like cross plys any way.
Martin.
Bias belted tyres look great from a profile but they do have a knack of finding grooves in the road and trying to take over the steering duties. If you bear this in mind you will be fine, but remember there was a reason for radials coming about in the first place.
Giv um a go fella it is after all the only way your gona find out what you think of them. We can only give you our opinion and there are no right or wrong opinions, just opinoins. The only definate is they will look the poodles noodles.
Martin.
I've got a set of these coming from the US to try out on the Kart.Capped on a Goodyear 235/75/15 radial, with an 1 1/2" whitewall, from Hurst tires.Read up on the company, best known for cheater slicks,on the HAMB,mostly very positive.Should be here mid December.I'll let you know what they're like
I like the look of 'em,and if they perform like regular radials....well,here's hoping
Paul
Give us a coupla weeks to make sure they get here ok,mount 'm,see how they drive and I'll give you a full rundown on the whole deal.
the Kripple Kart'll be at Romsey boxing day(hopefully wearing the new shoes)
You goin'?
There is another suppier of radials that look like crossplies ? I can't remember their name though, Diamondback or something similar ?
