Probably a dumb question, but can someone please school me on the principles of this type of gauge please? I've used the electric gauge & sender versions on previous engines, but never a mechanical one. I have a nice gauge that has about an inch of the copper wire sticking out the back, and I don't know whether to use it or not until I understand how it works.

Thanks guys

If it doesn't look much like this one, it's had the sender bit chopped off, pretty sure that makes it cattled.

You can get them repaired.

They fit a new tube and bulb, with the appropriate fitting for your engine, but unless it's a classic gauge it's not worth doing, as it's cheaper to just buy a new one.

Thanks for your help guys. Miles, I tried ringing you yesterday afternoon because I wondered if you did keep them there. Will try again later. Thanks again
