Hi guys got a 1978 Ex United States Army G20 Chevy van the engine is absolutely knackered.
While the body work is being done I would like to get a engine for the van but as the van will be a camper to travel the UK And Europe I would like a modern Euro Diesel such as a M57 BMW or OM606 Mercedes engine as need good MPG is there any other engine people would recommend should I stay with the original gearbox which is a TH350 or should I find an automatic gearbox to go with it as also would like to keep the column shift or at least relocate the gear shift somewhere easy and have seen some are just modern switch style gearshifts that could be placed any where. Never welded before so engine mounts will be the biggest issue I face I hope. would be thankful for any help and advice.

diesel pumps uk do lots for the mercedes diesels, 4, 5 and 6 cylinder. check their website, i'm sure they do an adapter to bolt them to the th350 box. they do big hp manual injector pumps too, so no more fly by wire.
neil.
