Here's a collection of pics taken by a good friend of mine, Greg Havler (ex Hul Street Freaks) taken when he lived in Cyprus. I think you'll find them interesting, thanks Greg

I have Friends who live in Cyprus full time, and they have mentioned this to me before. They however are not into Cars at all of any Age or Description, so it never went any further than this. Does anyone know the UK Import Procedure from Cyprus, and Costs involved etc ??!!.

Practical Classics magazine did an article on cars in Cyprus back in the 90's & then it was impossible to import a car from Cyprus, the Cypriot authorities simply didn't have a mechanism for doing it. Now they're part of the EU I'm guessing it ought to be easier. I was there in the mid 90's & the place was full of old British cars.

Looks like its still an impossibility !!. I`ve just had some further info P.M`d to me, that suggests that most, if not all of these Vehicles will Never be released by the Cypriot Authorities, so its a non-starter. Bloody shame though !!. :S

When I was there last year I came across a very nice MK1 Escort GT - tried to buy it but the guy was having none of it, god only knows how I would have got it home, there were also a few really great 50's buses which for some reason I thought would be great over here ..

I got this from Greg, the guy that took the pictures...

Hi Glenn, I have many pics put in military & Vintage Truck magazines over the last few years. many people have requested info to bring them over here, unfortunately most of these vehicles were compounded during and after the 74 war over there. Because of this they won't release them for sale or export. As an example I restored a 1974 Escort Mexico for one of the lads on camp that had been abandoned on the wrong side of a minefield in the green zone. We got it as far as RAF Akrotiri and about to load it onto a Fat Albert to the UK when Cypriot Customs and antiquities stopped us from loading. They classed it as an antiquity and impounded it.
Check out my photo albums on my profile and you will see many of the abandoned vehicles I found, some of them quite rare now.
I can give people the locations of them all if they were going over there, but obtaining them is a virtual no-no. Amongst the HGV's is a 60's bedford pick-up that I wanted to get to rod, I spent a lot of time tracking down the owners but to no avail.
By all means pass on my contact info, and I can send pics etc

That mirrors the Practical Classics article. They would sooner let them rot away than leave the country.

There's plenty of rusty old tin here......if you look. I believe there is a fordson van in belchamp st paul, suffolk! Will check what it is when I pass it next. I remember an old guy in the same village had loads of crap in a field behind his house. He still has his little showroom of military stuff. Might google earth it now :)

they are also very expensive to buy as costs of getting anything into the country as also high. Last time I was therr I was speaking to a local garage owner and they were buying in writeoffs and repairing on the island as a way of getting top end cars in cheaply.

Anyone got any Malta pics? Its bloody heaving out there, although there is apparently a clear up going on out there.Practical Classics ran a small bit where an R.A.F base was clearing up,scrapping several solid C.A vans amongst many more.
