I know this is really a massive question with so many variables i.e budget, amateur or professional, etc etc. So I will try and get across the best I can what I am looking for, but please try and answer without going into the full rules of each racing series, if you see what I mean :S

Ok here goes:-

1. What is the easiest and cheapest form of starting drag racing? Obviously NSCC would be the first answer and I am not dismissing it, far from, I was thinking more of a pure strip car and not a street car.

2. What would be the best car? (as a complete novice to the strip) I know we are looking at budgets again, but let's say something from 60's - 80's.

3. How much roughly, (don't want to know everyones outgoings :incheek: ), does it cost to run a car for the season? I know this has variables, i.e. breakages, nitrous, fuel etc, etc. but let's keep it to pump gas on a n/a sbc.

4. Which racing is better heads up or bracket? I can see pro's and cons for both, not starting the "Just racing against the clock argument", I was more looking at it as if you start in street eliminator for example and you are going out first round everytime it get's expensive for a 1 trip down the strip a weekend, could be a case of losing faith as well as races.

5. What kind of times should I be looking at to be competitive in say the NSCC series, Street Eliminator, bracket series?

6. Where would I find the rules and regulations on building a qualifying car?

if its a slingshot/altered,the wild bunch is best as the run non msa events...myself cunningplan and wb54 plus brit digger,movinghotrods have all done or do it,nscc see those chaps...

sportsman et is a good start in bracket racing in a door car,street eliminator you need to run a maximum of 13.5 to qualify (so i believe,will stand corrected) redvictor has run in this series..

whatever car you get start with some rwyb meets and have some fun..

Never thought about alterds or slingshots, I have had a chat with the NSCC chaps before and they all seem a great bunch of guys that have a laugh everywhere they go. RWYB was something I had in mind to start with.

nscc are a great bunch of people but theres some exceptions..:)incheek::incheek::incheek::incheek: fadster and mr freeman :incheek::incheek::incheek::incheek:)

your best bet is to come to a few meetings,see how its done (dont watch me:pmsl:)and get an idea of what you want to get in to.

keep it simple and relatively cheap at first (famous last words)but dont scrimp on saftey gear,get a good helmet whatever you drive good bike jobbies dont cut it to be honest..

That is the whole reason I want to get into it, because I went to the pod and had a watch. I did see you and now I know how not to do it (boing, boing, boing) watching from the grandstand with Dusty on the " I'm going to take it easy run..................oops was that really an 8????" :pmsl:

I like the sound of a slingshot/altered, but no idea where to start looking or fabricating, to workout costs.

Hi Stu,

If you are looking at a purely track car you will need to factor in a tow vehicle a trailer somewhere to keep them, a slingshot will mean a long trailer or purpose built. Where will you work on it, certainly wouldn't fit in your garage at home.

I would have a go at some RWYB's for a season and see how it pans out financialy, the other thing in your case, with you quite often working away Mon-Fri will be finding the time without falling out with the Mrs.

yes fortunately Phil, Terminal!!...........................................................(about 128 so far)

met a great set of people and really have been blessed with being able to do it.

Russ, very good points you made re transporters etc, but it can be done. My budget for what i have, wouldnt buy an engine for some of the guys on here.... you know who you are...and good luck to you.
if you want it bad enough and with a lot of luck and most importantly the blessing of the other half..(youll need the dough for parts more than new curtains:lol:)...AND a couple of dedicated mates to help along the way is crucial,.especially running a Dragster.

Good luck with whatever you can do.

why not run your hot rod at the nostalgias first?... we'll look after you wont we Jim?.....:mooooh:

of course we can sid,stuey get yourself to the drags with us at some point and have a good weekend with us,you will learn loads....then you can teach me and sid how to do it properly...
