Hi folks,
This will be an easy one I guess, but being a dinosaur I'm going to have to ask anyway..
The engine I've put in my MK1 Escort has a distributor with electronic ignition. The car is set up for points. I'm fairly sure (and will check) that it has no ballast resistor making it a straight 12 volts rather than the standard 9.
I assume I need a different ignition coil? If so, which one?
Also, I have a red and a black wire going to the trigger in the distributor. I suspect that I know where they go, but I'm going to ask the question. Where do they go?
Many thanks, Dave

If it’s an Aldon Ignitor type set up. Red wire is +ve ignition feed. Black is -ve coil terminal. Standard 12v coil will work fine as will one of the aftermarket Flame Thrower ones which may give a stronger spark.

Thank you both for your replies, so what I thought was the red and black went across the coil terminals, and essentially that is what you describe. I will have a look for the parts you suggested.
Cheers, Dave
