My father in law has had this 1950 Allard in his garage for about 35 years. Its not run for well over that, the back end was set on fire by hooligans in the late 80s so he remodelled it from the original P1 body to this v cool hot rod style.
I now really want to finish it off and get it to a concourse standard. Might need to add a couple of inches to the roof height... Would appreciate any help anyone can give!
Looking forward to being active on the forum on this probably very long journey!

A nice unusual project - presumably Ford or Merc flathead? -IMHO Allards are very objective in terms of style - personally I've always seen them a strangely 'dumpy' - always look (to me anyway) that the body needs sectioning. Perhaps get the body lower to the ground and do something with the side windows (taper back lower part to match door edge) and I think it will be a really looking vehicle.

Now that I like. The roofline looks tops to me. A set of hood vents in place of the rear quarterlights would look very outlaw.

Do you have an up to date V5C for it? If not ,that's your first goal before you lift a spanner .

Keeping stock running gear - hopefully yes, I'd like to tune the Ford flathead engine but other than that keeping it original.

That's a great idea about the window / door line. My problem is that I have no idea where to start with stuff like that. I've built a kit car before, and changed engines on various simple cars (Morris Minor, Citroen 2CVs) but never really done much in the way of bodywork.

There'll be people on here with the experience and advice you'll need - best give us an idea of what part of the world you're located - also more info/images about how the roof is constructed and what material etc. TBH I don't normally rave over many builds (OK the Armstrong Siddley one) - Its great to see home grown customs. Lots of period style tuning gear available for the flathead - use of it won't affect originality of car. Has the potential if designed carefully to be a really great car.

I didn't even know a V5C was a thing... Its a while since I've owned a classic. But have checked and that's what I have... V5C.

yes but is the taxation class 'historic'?
and a v5c is the name for all vehicle 'logbooks' these days, not just for classics.

change it before you do any alterations as it may be asked for an inspection. kev will have more details.
