Hi Sat morning early 6ish,Chevy packed so head of to meet Billy and Pat in the 58 and Bobby G (or Robbie as some of you know him) in his A .
Meet the Boys at 7.30 and head off ,great drive down sun all the way(anyone else ever notice the minute you hit Gretna the Road is mint)and cruisin to ZZ Top
Arrive at Kirkbride at 9.45 ,first see Davey in with his" Purple willys" and some other Scottish boys , Flamed Pop,Crackin Blue Y also there, then Keith Hunt arrived with his nearly finished Red B ,then Jim bringing his Black B .
Good turn out also of the HRG boys and their toys but........
TOO many Max Jap crap there for my liking I am sorry to say I went to watch Hot rods race not Skoda Diesels with whistles(baby Turbos)or clone ceptic type R s
Good turn out of bikes but all look the same to me ,I know this was the first and we did nt stick around for the whole day but if I wanted to see youngsters thrash their rides I would go up the town on a Friday night or Go to crail to see a sea of the same.

When the rods ran they were seriously fast (more of that please),got to say well done for effort for the people who put it together and poss tomorrow will be better but it was called Hot rods and thrills (Not enough Hot rods and too many others)
Took some pics Andy
(sorry having trouble loading pictures))

i hear what you are sayin andy.......but maybe the large turnout of japcrap will ensure the events success financially...particularly as its a new event and who knows the seriously quick rods may even convert some young uns

Scottie I thought it was Davy I passed on the way home, and Bobby I agree the only way these events shall be successful financially is by having lots of the" Civic boys" turn up and run there cars...part of me knows this is the way it is and I cant be back in the "Santa Ana "days when it was wall to wall Hot rods etc

Yes its good there is somewhere for the boys to go but I dont want to watch these types of the same cars ,so the event wasn't what I thought it was going to be and hopefully the Rod //Eurobox ratio will tip in our favour in the future events...Was listening to Craig speak about all the cars that were suppose to be turning up on paper it was going to have more rods etc but the numbers hadnt arrived by the time we left .....plenty of support from the Scots and the HRG boys ,good to see them as you say Bob was the first one and should grow better every year like the Hot Rod and the Hills run
as for turning them to build pops and B s time will tell , Andy

My pleasure Andy, it was great to see andrews face when i opened it up a bit down the back road. Have found the cause of the slight misfire... one of the carb rubbers has perished! so i'll order a new set in the morning also i'll get the body colour sanded the week as i now want to drive it a bit more before it goes up for sale.
I'll give you a call during the week to go and see billy if thats ok, would love to see the two motors together.
Nice catching up and also it must be my turn for dinner, when is stu due home?
Regards

I was at kirkbride today with my kids and have to say i was disappointed by the lack of rods but the quality of the ones i saw was good to say the least
A flamed pop and a model y were both gorgeous and ran in the tens all day despite the start line looking a bit lacking in grip ,the model y had so many runs i lost count
Unfortunately for me my pop is in bits as usual :sniff: so didn't come out to play
On a major plus side the potential to get at least 30+ runs in in a day would make it worth the trip if you were wanting to set up a car and not spend all day sitting in the fire up road
Was also a bit disappointed by the lack of any sort of traders other than a burger and ice cream van
Think kirkbride could be an excellent weekend away for rodders if we can get passed the hurdle of not many rods being there so not many more bother to come.

Craig Dixon was saying today, that for the first event, we had to tag onto a normal rwyb to be fiancialy viable, plans are afoot to improve attendance, with a view to a hotrods/yanks etc only event

I thought the event was great - it was very much to be expected that there would be a fair few modern motors there but if it had just been left to the rodders the entry fees would have had to have been about £600 a head to cover the cost of staging the event! If everybody spreads the good word then hopefully this will just grow and grow and we can get it established. Getting any kind of event like this is damned hard work, and I for one would like to say thanks to Craig Dixon and also the lads and lasses of the Straightliners who made it possible.

I wasn't too keen on the half mile walk from where you had to park though ,i can live with that though as kirkbride is only 10 miles from my front door :D

I dont post much but Just like to add my thanks to Craig and the straightliners for a great weekend.

I agree with gasket in that it takes a lot of hard work to get an event established. You can only hope that everyone thats says is coming does turn up, been in that situation.

Its the people that do turn up that make the weekend and i had a great night on the saturday as well.

If you dont support it you will loose it then you will have nothing to moan about.

cheers Ray

I'm just sick of hours and hours and hours on the m6 to the pod or A1 to york  crail is pants so kirkbride is a godsend (looks a bit bumpy at the top end though)
For me as to do a weekend away i have to take friday ,saturday and sunday off as i work weekends so save at least a days holiday by doing kirkbride and if it all goes tits up i'm close enough to go and get spares
Even got my pop fixed today so ready to chuck a sicky for the next one at kirkbride :D
