Some mobile speed cameras use Infra red to track you, they aim the beam at head lights ( the most reflective item on a car ).

So, run with small lights or day time covers, with out headlights showing you can reduce your tracking distance by up to 30%.
That can give you enough time to get on the brakes & get below the speed limit.
Also run old style ( non reflective ) plates if you can, & don't have your car painted red.
The wavelength of red, is right next to the infra red wave length, ( besides, it can also make some cars look very noddy car / gay looking ! )

As to radar,same as above- radar is just a few octaves below visible red- red paint is bad news, also any hard shiny surfaces particularly at right angles to the front..
Chrome grills bumpers etc, don't help.
Having a glass fibre car with out bling & a nice curvy front profile painted black or a dark colour is going to be hard to track,

To check your car, shine a red light at it at night.
What shines back the most, is what will hang you.

As far as I remember, the infrared is for processing the image not the speed of the vehicle. The vehicle passing over is usually sensed by induction loops embedded in the road or, in the case of average speed cameras, all the plates are captured and then re-captured further down the road and processed by a computer system to work out the average speed over a set distance.

For the radar ones, i'm fairly sure that people aren't going to build cars on the same spec as 'stealth' planes. You may have noticed that these stealth fighters/bombers use sharp angles and flat panels as opposed to a nice curvy exterior. You're far more likely to be picked up with a big curvy surface due to the larger surface area giving more for the radar to bounce off.

As already posted. Easiest way to get away with speeding is to not do it in the first place :tup:

If you are going to speed then happily accept the consequences.

On another note, it may be a worthwhile suggestion that you get more involved with some of the existing threads to build your post count up a bit rather than diving in on some of these subjects as you have so far :tup:

I once took the plates off one of my trucks(not get too detailed here)and went though a long stretch of roadworks at speed, on the A1,at every camera ,of which there were several,my missus of the time took here top off and smiled for the camera ,we laughed all the way through,and im sure the camera guys had a smile too:bigsmile:

i can tell you that the originator of this post is almost right but not quite, his facts are sound, but er not 100% accurate.

Radar is old tech most modern detecton equitment is actually laser. The benefit of laser is that its fooprint is smaller over a larger area, as an example the radar device might spread from a pinpoint to the width of a street over a 500 mtr distance whereas laser over the same distance may only have a spread the size of a dinner plate. This compact spread enables the user to pinpoint target vehicles, ie, pick out a single car in a line of trafic. Reflectiveness is important here.

Radar will bounce of anything it hits so for sake of argument the entire frontal area of the target car, refective in the sceintific sence or not, hence why they droped strips of silver foil over germany to confuse radar detection of alied planes, the radar signals bounced off the 1000s of strips of foil...and for the best part the planes got through, ( however the detecton of the foil still intimated the presence of aircraft ! )

Laser responds much better to a reflective surface such as a healight, but also a numberplate or the windscreen, those are the ideal targets for the best responce, however the laser will also reflect back off the front of the car be it a plastic bumper or grille, the only difference being the strength of return signal and so the time to read the speed of the offending vehicle up to 500 mtrs from the opperator. since a lot of drivers seem incapable of seeing that far ahead there is plenty of time to obtain a reading from the less reflective surfaces..

Off the top of my head I think the diffrence in responce between reflective and less reflective surfaces is 0.3% and not 30% as stated, so, by the time youve hit the brakes your already detected!!!

constant breaks from the target may prevent a reading, for example the beam should emit from the equipment reach its target and reflect back to the equipment unbroken, otherwise no reading will be recorded, so in effect rain, can in theory, affect the effectiveness of the signal responce, It wont stop it but it may slow down the response, depending on the volume of rain. Overhanging trees and bushes blowing in the breeze can also break the beam, but since there are so many beams constantly emmitted from the device sufficient will make the trip there and back without interference. So nothing stops the result, there just sometimes slower to record depending on the operating conditions.

As for colours, there is a difference in the refletive properties. Black is best for absorbing the effect of laser, White is best for reflecting the beam. the remaining spectrum is much the same but neither are so distant so as to make any significant difference.

Riding a motor cycle your less likely to be detected simply because the size of the target you present, but your still gonna be got, it might just take a split second longer to get a readng.

the best way not to be detected is like others say, dont speed, stick to the speed limits..

or you could arrage for the RAF to drop tons of foil strips just ahead of your planed route since the laser will respond to every srip it hits making it less likely to get a lock on your car, however it might be cheeper just to pay he fine if you really feel the need for speed

Once got taken out for a test drive in a Brabus Merc SL600 - this was owned by a UK resident but still registered on German plates - he drove this at speeds up to 140 mph and just waved at Specs cameras - he apologised after the test drive (as he had a recent puncture so had to use an oversized spacesaver wheel & tyre) he would have driven it faster otherwise:wanker:
