Please help someone.

I have a 1966 327 Chevy Caprice with a HEI dizzy.

Why does the ignition light stay on and the engine continue running (not in the pre-ignition sense) when I turn the engine off and removed the key. The problems intermitant and driving me mad.

I've replaced the ignition switch and neutral safety switch with brand new items. I've checked the distributor wiring and the starter and solenoid wiring but can see nothing wrong. Ive wired a number of bikes and chops in the past but this one's foxed me.

Any advice or ideas will be much appreciated. Cheers chaps.

Hi Baz,
sounds like it possibly might be the alternator re-energising the ignition system causing it to continue running?
any way of disconecting the alternator and run it up to see if the problem goes away,
once you fix this, pull your finger out and finish off the willy's eh!

Cheers Legs, I try that tomorrow. As for the 41 - I'll do my best, can't promise tho'.

I've got my eye on a coupla other things now - A 72 Dodge Van - Vans are back baby - and a 74 Manx Beach Buggy. Oh and we're moving to new house too.

I'll let you know how the Caprice ignition gets on.
