Like most I probably spend way too much time talking shit on furums but recently I've noticed a lot are down on posts and slow moving.

Some forums I use have facebook pages which by the looks of it are very busy, so whats the view, is Faceboook taking over as the default for setting up special interest groups ?

Yes.

I run the local VW club forum and it's died a death, but the Facebook group has loads of posts everyday. I think people want all their information in one place.

I prefer forums though.

The forums that have died probably had little strength anyway.....how many modified car forums were there at one time?Hundreds is possibly the answer and all run and membered by peeps who knew little about how their cars ran but enjoyed the title of Boy Racer or Girl Racer. They even thought that they had a car club.

I have an FB page but as some else has already pointed out,it moves too fast plus there are not any reference points unlike on here which has a wealth of information.

I wouldn't miss Facebook but I would a good forum.

yes, but the thing with facebook is everything slides down the page fast
agree facebooks page format is shite. As a consequence the content is general chit chat because nothing last longer then 2-3 days max.

It's seems to have gone full circle where forums started as notice board for announcments etc, went on to full social communities and now with facebook back to daily titlte tattle with pretty basic content.

I prefer the easy reference back of forums , far easier to find something. I remember Holmseys old UK Hotrods e mail site which was GREAT at the time. However the more structured format of a forum now works better. For me, Facebook is more like those old Yahoo e mail groups.

Yup, you can have very specialized groups on Facebook but I have a fair broader approach to cars, and life ,in general.

I think the appeal of facebook for many is that you can socialise with only those you like but you can do the same on here with the 'Block' list:)

Id agree kev.
Facebook is ok but far to fast paced, and i cant figure out how you re reference things on there.

Ive been putting a build on a f/b group and dont think that many folks look or coment.

Much prefer say here as i can just search and re add pictures to a build thread, that follows it from start to finish.you cannaldo judge by view counts wether its worth posting pics or not.

No good posting for myself

I never did FB until last year and was invited to join a closed group even though I like all forms of cars and motorsports, I have found it to be very good and I find it especially friendly and the group is going from strength to strength.

I still enjoy all the other forums that I subscribe to just the same as before, but I don't mind the dedicated nature of the facebook group either.

Cheers John

I wouldn't say it's killing them but it's slowing a lot of them right down, some people like forums slow though .

Apparently FB is very good, but there seems to be a lot of unwanted baggage that comes with it,not for me.

People only have so much time to allocate to FB or forums ,there is no extra time available to accommodate both, and FB seems to be addictive, possibly helped by the advances of smart phones.

Some no doubt will defend FB,but I don't think you need to here.

Big forums like this one are helped by the amount of people registered on them,so they have some momentum still.

FB will slow when the next new thing comes along.

From what I hear, FB is killing a lot of basic human interaction, (but Ive never used it so may be wrong), along with a bunch of people who were taken in by it and have now moved on....
