Hi there,my first post so hello every body! be gentle lol

I have just bought my first "proper rod", a 63 Mk3 Zephyr with a rover v8, Type 65 3 speed box.

I'm off to collect the car on Sunday as I was chatting with the guy who owns it he said i might want to look into lowering the gearing a little as he feels its a little high.

As I want to use the car as much as possible, visiting as many shows as possible, I'm thinking this might be a good idea.

is there a diff I could swap out for the original to lower the gearing or am I in for a bit more work?

Tyre size can make a big difference as well ,need to know what ratio you have in there at the mo( can be 4.1 ,3.9 or 3.54 ) (and what size tyres you are using to offer advice.

Hi ,welcome to the site,you should get some helpfull info of the guys on here oh an the gals ,as there are more motor minded ones these days,Kapri is right you need to know what youve got in there first as they done the 4cyl engine in the zephyr that has the 4.1 which would have you reving pretty high,you could probably use the 3.54 an go up to 14" wheels as well with the power of the rover in there.....cheers DAVE

Probably best to look into fitting something like a 3 litre capri axle or the 2.8 axle.. first one is 3.22 and the second one 3.09. With the small tyres it would be ok. sit it on the existing leaf springs

Hi guys, thanks for the info, unfortunatly I've a few more problems than anticipated, when driving the car back it feels like the prop is way our of balance, vibrating like hell.
The electronic ignition Timing set up is out as its running lumpy as hell and just to top it off while i was in france
my nieghbour forgot to leave his handbrake on and rolled his car into the front of the zephyr, so now i'm looking for a front wing, bumper and possibly front strut.

Least the weathers nice!

Diffs on all Mark 3 Zodiacs, Zephyr 6 and the Zephyr 4 Automatics were 3.54:1 ratios.

Diffs from the Mark 2 Zephyr 6 and Zodiacs were 3.90:1 ratios

Thank you smurf, I have joined up thanks for the info.
It seems i have bigger things to worry about at the moment. to the point where I think it would be better to take her off the road and start fresh.

The engine's running as rough as heck, the auto box has just dumped its oil on the drive, and the vibrations from either the prop or the box are frightening to say the least. and as i was looking over the underneath, it looks like one of the rear bars to the axle is about to come away from it's mount.

Looks like i'll be missing this season to rebuild her properly. I want to be able to drive her safely with the wife and my son to be (four weeks yikes!) to as many shows as we can, so starting fresh will be the best bet. I think I'll start a new build post in the garage......
