OK guys here goes.... Not strictly in my shed,,, and I'm getting a lot of help

The 1930 Model A sedan build is underway...at a top secret location in the south of England, just off the A35 ...Now I'm sure its a handy place to get to for you southern jockeys (South is anywhere below Preston to me, apologizes to the midlands, once you hit Oxford you may as well be in France) anyhow it's an 8 hr drive for me to get there .....So this better be a winner, or mebe I just need a faster car.

It has been stripped to reveal the bones of the beast... After a few cuppas and a lot of chin rubbing..the plan is :-

32 model B chassis , pinched to accept Model A body
40's Ford rear axle and transverse spring
Buick drum brakes
3" roof chop

It already has a magnificent Flathead, which is how/why I started this whole thing off in the first place

body will be taken back to bare steel.....I've not decided how to finish it off yet.....but cost is a big part so it'll not be getting a flash paint job ....

However my daughter suffers from severe epilepsy and their colors are Purple...and 'take CONTROL' is a phrase used in the literature ...So dark grey and Purple are high on my list to use.

Anyhow I'm not too up on tech but apparently there are the current pics ...

As an ex-Cumbrian now living the dream in the sunny South I'm intrigued by this although my browser won't support the pics! I was lucky enough to have a quick look around a local 'Speedshop' and there was a very nice A sedan body in progress, might image stumbled across the lair of the beast?. If so , give me a shout if I can be of any assistance , I well remember the long drive from the Great Border City to the south coast, not easy.

And I'm happy to admit it's not me doing all the hard work (Go Jim and the Boys n Girls :coffee:) ....but I am knocking my pan in to be able to get this done .....I'll happily tell the full story to any of you if you ask me at any of the 2020 meets I manage to get to.

Current plan is to be at Hot Rods n Hills, so fingers crossed it all comes together.....

Its now at the blasters to clean it up and uncover any remaining Sh**e bodges from the previous place it was painted...you can't see from the pics but there were bits of panels stuck on with NO MORE NAILS, then bondo and painted over  ..... turns out you can polish a TRUD..so first it is being UNPOLISHED :smoke:

I don't have pics cos I don't have access to instagram ......( cos I refuse to register with the several well known media platforms of instagram, twitter, faceache etc and all that other stuff that I see as crap underhand ways to just annoy me)

Anyhow apparently there are some pics of the car at ..... qsemetalblast ...

Hi guys, thought I'd update you as to progress... and mygasser I meant I didn't have any pics at all of the car at the blasters, not even on my own confuser, so they are only available on his instagram thing..

Anyhow even though Pendine has been delayed this year. Jim is still making progress on the build, even in these limited times.... so a couple of pics of where he had to start from so pics of the car as it was returned to me from you know where, so this lot was hidden behind the seats and panels.... so all thats gone now and the new stuff is slowly being installed

Update for anyone who's interested ..... Obviously this years is a bit of a bust when it comes to going anywhere, but it does mean shed time is at a premium, so I've been doing stuff to my bikes..... Whereas down in the south ...Where oddly people still think Manchester is the NORTH of England. Well I live in the North of England and it's 150 miles to Manchester from here... and as far as I know 150ish miles south of Manchester is London ...SO its more middle than North.... Anyhow back to the point of this post.

Down in the proper south (Poole)... Them folks have been plodding on...

Full Steel floor - internal RAPTOR coat

New Roof woods - original tank removed

Chassis build up started

Pedal Box installed

Chopped body in for paint prep

55Z ...well Ron ...the short version of a very tortured road goes something like this...

Originally bought the car from a member of a well known rod club ...who swore it was all good, just needed a couple of maintenance items.... and like all things, sometimes you can only find out how bad it is once you dig in..... So after finding the chassis was not square or level, the drums were cracked and the engine was effed..... I took it completely apart and started again. .... Engine was rebuilt and still is brilliant

I was directed to a Rod Shop in Wales, and they said they could correct the chassis ....during many conversations they also said they could complete the build to 'show quality' and if I agreed to let them use it at a few shows, then they would pay for the paint and interior.

3 years later and more excuses than enough ....along the lines of, he said his wife was dying 3 times, he'd got married and divorced twice, he'd had 2 suspected heart attacks, lots of 'employees' had let him down etc etc...allegedly. ..... As I was sympathetic to all these excuses I went along with the repeated delays...

Yes its easy to look back and see , but when you are very busy and have experience of tragedy, then it is easy to be taken advantage of.... As I have now learned.
So when I finally insisted the car was completed, I was told ( I quote) "F*ckOFF I'll see you in court !" , the car was eventually returned as a none running car, leaking fuel from the tank , the body was cracked, filler was falling off, paint was, well it was like screwed up sandpaper, and the 'new' disc brakes didn't work.

HOW BAD COULD IT BE ....... So it came apart again to have a look (I am a mechanical engineer by profession, so I'm OK with fixing stuff)..... Turns out is was now worse than when I'd first got it.... chassis was not only, not square or level, the rear axle was mounted a inch further out on one side, the wiring was dangerous, the steering was now fouling the headers and would have locked up completely if you tried to drive it...so twas a blessing it wouldn't run

Typically the legal system allows companies to shut down and open 2 days later with a very similar name and no comeback to previous work. I'm sure some people will say its my own fault, and that they would never let people get away with it etc etc ..... well Stupid or not, This is a real story and those people are still in business .... I am more wary of people, so use them if you wish but be warned.

Anyway..... I am not a competent welder / fabricator ...... but I have been dreaming of having a Flathead powered hot rod ever since my Hot Wheels days as a kid..... and I'm not getting any younger... I decided to carry on and start again, after all 3rd time lucky ...right.
So instead of a million hours in the shed, I committed to a couple of 1000 hours over time and the progress this time can be seen in the pictures .... I am hoping it will be ready to race at Pendine in October... but this year is a bust for most things, so in essence if it's just finished this year I'll be happy.... and tired, and skint ....... But I will finally have my toy to play with.

Yes I do feel privileged that I can work extra . Especially in these time when so many have lost jobs and more. But it also means that the Good Rod shops have had the work and thats gotta be a good thing.
