Had a quick search through the forum and couldn't find anything that answered my question so here goes.

I want to make a new steering column for my truck and need to find a 1" 48 spline shaft to make up one end. It doesn't matter what length it is as I will be welding it into a tube that I can then cut to length. All the searches I have done come up with 3/4" as about the biggest size for splined steering shafts.

Does anybody know where I can get this size shaft? Either a supplier in this country or a suitable donor vehicle. Tried Rally Design but they only have shafts for Ford Escorts which are about 14mm. Any help would be appreciated.

I think that pre war Austins used this spline. I'll have a count up on a spare column when I'm back in the workshop at the weekend if someone hasn't come up with an answer before then.

Might be able to get my hands on a camaro that I could measure up. Going to American companies seems to be an expensive way of getting something as I don't need anything else at the moment so postage would ramp up the cost. If I can find it over here that would be great. Want to make an old style column with an external column shift rod.

Would certainly be interested to hear if you have anything spare Stuee.
