Right, getting pissed off with the beer gut. Just been to buy a new suit and I'm up to a 38in waist, always been pretty fit but over the last 5 years I've just stacked on about a stone and half. I struggled to get into my race suit last year, this year I'll have no chance.

I sit on amy arse all day at work, and would struggle for time and with the cost of going to the gym. I like a beer, only really drink maybe once a week, diets fairly balanced but do like my grub. Not keen on running as I fucked my knees playing football and cyclings a no go as I live at the top of a big bastard hill.

Anybody managed to shift the beer gut and if so how ?. Apologies for the gay'ness of the topic, but I figure it's time to sort it out.

I'm in the same boat, beer drinking doesn't help. I think all I need to do is eat less crappy foods and lay off the beer. I was a skinny git before I started working in an office

plenty of sex!!
Yeah agree, but with your hand doesn't count

gonna try swimming either before or after work, quite enjoy it. Cycling not so keen on, nowhere decent to ride and impossible to build it up as I'm on top of a hill, basically every direction is downhill....so there a lung bursting uphill ride home..

On the diet, I struggle. A decent dinner that fills you up for me is meat, veg and spuds. If I don't eat a proper dinner, I'm hungry by 9.30 and eating crisps and biscuits......maybe I'll increase the meat / fish portion, eat more veg and reduce the spud/pasta.

Knackered my feet 5 years ago and steadily been putting on weight ever since.. Used to run maybe 15-20 miles per week cycle about the same and had a gym set up at home which I used about twice per week.

Why? Because in my job I eat and drink every day, taking punters out to get them to part with their budget!

So, I now cycle twice per week, probably 30-40 miles, do a load of sit ups using one of those big balls, and have just joined a gym down the road to use their running machine.

I found that the only thing that burnt off the fat was running, after 2 weeks on the treadmill I can now get into my suits comfortably rather than wanting to undo the top button all the time.

If your knees are knackered get some good running shoes from a specialist shop. They will sort out the support, and then get on the treadmill. Much better on the joints than the road, after a week or so you will really see a difference. Plus you get to look at all the pretty young things in their skimpy gym gear.

Pity I am such an ugly old git really!

I quit drinking (not as bad as it sounds) after a month & a bit it doesn't really appeal anymore. I'm 27 & have had 10 years of 'binge drinking' I really can't remember much of many friday or saturday nights :shake:

I run a few times a week, only a few miles at a time. I have a sit up bench & use a treadmill when the weather's crap. Tried to cut out as much crap food as possible & snack on fruit.

right, getting a plan together here.

1' Try and eat breakfast, bran flakes, skimmed milk etc no toast, Normally can't stomach brekkie.

2 ' Lunch, changing to wholemeal bread/ wraps and lean cuts (corned beef can't be good for me ?) Dropping the crisps. Already eat grapes, apple and banana each day.

3' Dinner, up the meat/fish content, up the veg intake, bin the spuds, add in small amount wholemeal pasta or rice.

4' Excercise, gonna try swimming before or after work each day and when the weather brightens up, go for a decent walk at lunchtime

5' Cut out boozing till the end of Feb, drink bottles instead of pints, possibly go on shorts sooner

Sound about right ?

Getting motivated to exercise is the hardest part. Take the kids swimming & run the bath & thats my lot.
Oh & the odd stint on the wii.

Must try to do more or gonna have to change my t shirt order to XL.

measer yourself all over once a week whatch the inches drop off

I was an Army PT instructor for nineteen years and what your going to loose has got to be gradual

never miss breakfast it does not have to be bran shite, a cereal with semi or skimmed milk, fruit or fruit drink

tea break whole meal sarny (no fatty meat) peace of fruit citrus if pos

lunch go for a walk with an apple and chewing gum just 15 minutes a day

Afternoon tea break, sweet fruits for energy ie: mellon, bananas, black grapes black currant drink for vitamins to stop you feeling tired try to pack your self some peaces of cellery and carrot for snacking and increese you intake of water to two litres a day.

Evening meals, Backed potatoes are good for you, try them with fish but increese your veg intake it'll make you fart at first but hey who cares

do not try to start this all in one go, blend it in to your daily routine over one month, by that time your body will already be loosing its fatty content

good look on which ever way you decide its easeyer if you've stopped drinking

I have a similar problem because I work in an office and I had 2 broken knees.

Just a couple of ideas which helped for me.
What I found helped was to drink a hell of a lot of water.
I walk nearly every dinnertime for half an hour (I get an hour for dinner) Plus I walk for half an hour to and from work.
Get an exercise bike or a turbo trainer if you can't cycle anywhere. Do it in front of the telly. I can't run anymore and the hospital told me the best thing was to cycle (I damaged them falling off my mountainbike in the Beacons)
Cut down your portions on everything, and just eat generally more healthy. It's a lifestyle thing you have to get used to not just a 3 month phase to lose a bit of weight quick.
Take celery and carrot (or similar) to work to snack on, and just don't buy any biscuits or similar to be tempted. Easier in work than the house with kids.

Good luck, and keep us posted. There's a few people interested on here ;)

Have a good breakfast. It's essential to stop the snacking throoghout the morning.

Also try and avoid the sandwich rounds that call into the office. their stuff is normally packed with high fat mayo. I know it tastes great, but doesnt help the waist!

According to a few of the surgestees joining a gym is the solution well it is'nt because if they were fitness minded they would already be going to the gym.

It's got to be a small change in your life style and a gradual wheight loss.

then when the wheigh has gone join what you want and get fit and ripped if ya like
