...Yes, it is , but coming at it from a different angle .

I've read most of the arguments about whether to use ported or vacuum advance and can see both ways being good dependent on cam set up and where you need your timing.

However the thing I always see is it is purely on American sites and to do with American engines? They say that all Yank cars used full vacuum for 30-40 years before going over to ported advance when they introduced the stricter emissions controls in America.

I've been thinking back over many different Brit cars with points and ignition that I've worked on and I cant think of a single one that ever used full vacuum, all were ported. ? The performance upgrade has always been do away with vac advance totally and go with an all centrifugal distributor.

Why the totally different thinking over here?
