[BRIT DIGGER]

i thought of an idea that may to help with "ugly" dragster/race car support vehicle problem?....you know them white vans and people carriers.... being in the way of the cars on the strip when spectaters are taking pics, and blocking the view of fans wanting to see the track action at the nostalgia nationals and the hot rod drags.(problem due to track layout and "cant" be got round)

basicly would having "period style" vehicles used, make this problem any less of a problem?...i think it would be a better spectical and add to the occasion anyway,

a couple of people have already said they would be up for it... 40stude and dusty.

if anybody else fancies doing it post on here, or contact either alan martin or myself, and we will contact race teams and try to see what can be done to match people up,,,, depending on needs etc..

Any race teams reading this please let us know if your up for doing it..:tup:.

so come on lets hear what youve got to say about it ....

I won't be needing a push vehicle though i need something to tow my trailer and throw my gear in. My daily escort won't cut it. Would love a period 50/60's car to tow but not on my budget i'm afraid. Been toying with what to get. Old van , cheap camper newer wagon of some sort. Needs to be something i can still drive to work though. After mucho head scratching i think i've found it, a Mid 80's Volvo 240 Logroof, a flying brick!!! Christ never though those words would pass my lips:shock:
Went and had a look at my mates Dads one on the wend, a 240 GLT. Built like a tank, nice spec ( for the year) easy pull the trailer and more space than alot of small vans. Would also double up as somewhere to sleep/fall. Had a general look and a mint one goes for around £1000-£1200. Also tend to come with FSH and low mileages. Never thought i'd say it but it fits the bill and i'll be buying one in the new year.

Dan the volvo is a great choice for a tow car...:tup: you can even sleep in it.

this thread is trying to get hotrod/vintage truck owners etc, to get more involved in the actual events if they have the time or inclination?.
and to try and give the "arena" a more era visual aspect.

this is a great idea...think about it..you get in the lanes,usually end up doing more than just tow car driver...i do the staging,backup and get to chase bigjob down the track after his monstrous burnouts,then usually pilot the car back down the return road as it gets hot in the nova..plus it gives you alot of mojo to get a car out to race yourself.

i will offer my car if anybody wants to do the tow thing just ask..just not if you have this...

Takes a bloody long time to get down the end of the strip in it though!

fuck me,that transits one of the things i wish i had when stuck in the derby traffic....its fukkin ace..got to see it years ago at a show on our local park..things aint been the same since..
