Hi there everyone,
i have posted this in a few places and i thought i'd try this site! i'm looking for some information about the once popular rover V8 Challenge, i was trying to find out the class rules and results as well as any pictures or history of the class and the cars that ran it.

i ask specifically as i am currently rebuilding Rob Chiltons Ford Popular PR21 for street use, i believe it was originally red flake but painted white at some point!

any information would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

tim

There was two classes in the championship , Street Rover and Pro Rover.
I ran in Street Rover , limited to 11.00 seconds , I think pretty much anything went (fading memory ) , it had to be street legal , MOT etc etc.

We could use slicks and open exhausts , engine mods were pretty much free and most cars ran nitrous. It was a real good class , a lot of racers cut there teeth in that class...:smoke:

Go to www.luckydevil777dragracing.com to see the pop I had at the time.

That was Ian Hampsteads, he still owns it & keeps threatening to get it out again, one of my cousins knows him through work.

I always prefered his Escort to Steve Greens Cortina, partly due to the look but I think it was often overshadowed by Steves car.

Steve Birchill's RV8 Escort was an interesting car with it's Mk2 front and drop tube and just behind is Billy Brown's RV8 couped Minor from Scotland

Was the orange Pop pick-up now in Outlaw Anglias in it ?
Green E-type Jag too ? Still racing I think. Looks like a torpedo :)
Paula Aitkins 100e
Steve Greens Cortina was the 1st V8 I heard that revved like a flippin motorbike.

I used to love watching the RV8 racing, in the same way I love Street Eliminator now.

Hi Jifop, i've still got all the rule and regs, all the results and right ups that Steve Day and Tony ? (dam forgot his sirname) did from 88 to 93 in a folder in my attic. I will dig them out next week, scan and post a few of them.
They were real good times running in the RV8 challange. Made a lot of friends and enemys!
I bumped into Rob at the classic ford show this year hadnt seen him since 92
i also talked to Kev Jenkins he told me that Ian Hamsted had just sold his mk1, Nice car!
i'll put a old picture of my RV8 street challange car on. 10.7 @ 133 was the best we ran in the challange. Still got the Anglia but looks a bit diferent nowadays. Just remembered its Tony Beadle!

My old mate Tony Cooper used to do some press for a while, if my memory serves me right he did the news letter too, i used to go with him and take photo's but not sure where they are now! Tony also used to run a matt black mk1 escort with a blown rover in it...i also remember a story of a certain 105E owner that was bedding in his cam at about 3am with open hedders in his garage then loading the car and off to the pod?

also the E type was good old Al simms, not sure if its the same car that still runs now..
