Hi i am looking for a front beam axel to fit to my Mk2 Consul .Ready to fit would be nice i can live in hope any help would be a tuch
Hi Shane

Welcome to rods n Sods mate

To go for the gasser stance isnt as easy as i first thought but at the same time by asking for advice is the best thing to do

Firstly alot depends on what your going to use the car for, what engine, ride height, tools, ability, knowledge and funds all play part

Youve also got to take into account is it registered as modified or not (if not your gonna need to speak to Kapri on here)

Now it may all sound negative but you dont want to spend a year building a car that the powers that me make it awkward to use (so to speak)

Im sure theres a lot of people on here that will advise from there wealth of knowledge and will help you along the way

Hence me starting this thread, With out the advice i was given my car would still not be usable and i wouldnt want you to have to go throught the death woble i had

Personally, If i were to do another

I would either get an axle made or get a transit axle narrowed and use the steering from the same (see the Henry Hirise thread)

Im in the process of chaging the transit springs for something shorter at present as i didnt like the look of the single leaf

Good luck m8

My first suggestion is do some research, look at production vans out there using beam front ends and see how the steering axle and steering work together. There is a reason for which end is fixed and the steering box location compared to that .

Look at the angle stuff mounts at and try to see why .

Invest in an angle finder as caster angle is very important for handling and preventing the 'death wobble'.

I built my highrider back in '78 and went through 4 steering systems before I found one that works as no one ( this side of the pond ) had been there before . So I had to learn by try and error what I've suggested you do above.

Those of us that have been theer before can help with tech but rather than us simply telling you "do this " "do that" tne inspection of a few OEM systems will help you understand any tech stuff we tell you.

From memory (which isnt that good) a transit is around 6" too wide and then you have to play with hubs/stubs to get the stud pattern that of a car
Hi and thank for you help with this have you seen my other gasser i have in my pictures that i am working on at the mo trying to get it ready for nats.....Shane
