Don't quite know what to make of all this, ladies and gents . . .

Millions of modified and classic cars could be banned from the roads as meddling European Union try to shake-up MOT rules | Daily Mail Online

I've only recently become aware that many have given up resources, income, family time, etc, to warn of similar in the past - especially the "ACE" members and administrators and I salute you guys 'n gals for all that took - so sorry in being so slow off the mark and posting this so late in the day.

Is this the beginning of the end, or is there a way to protect our hobby and the valuable smaller industries that have always catered for creativity, period mods and custom stuff?

I understand there are comments that some 'official' bodies set up to represent classics / historics / resto-modding, etc, may have been asleep at the wheel - or possibly been fed misinformation??

I wonder how many aftermarket goodie manufacturers, specialist tuners, bespoke craftsmen panel makers, replica parts suppliers, etc, know this is looming at their workshop doors? It's my understanding that it could affect a multi-million pound industry . . .

Hard to believe that in joining a "free market economy" approx 40 yrs later we are at risk of being dictated to in this way.

Britain invented so much, exported so much, adapted to overcome, etc, and I bet a lot of that was because folks had freedom of thought and chance to exercise their creativity.
Heaven only knows most of the great inventions began by people tinkering in a kitchen, shed or workshop - I'm sure that applies to automotive stuff, too - part of the fun element of " . . . I wonder if that would fit ?"

I have no eureka answers; Am trying to think positively - just wondering your thoughts on if / how this affects the future of customs and classics?

Yup, keeps coming up on facebook for some reason, it has been suggested that it is NOW being used to lobby for exit. It came from research and study that we at ACE did and our supporters crried through by contacting MEPs. It still went through but changed from a 'Must do' to ' Please do' due to those who lobbied.

The form it was originally written held many problems for modifiers of all years and styles. The DfT have been examining and tweaking and we await the official Consultation paper which is due any moment. That will be our LAST CHANCE to change anything. Once the key pieces are in place then it can be tweaked to stop modifying without actually banning it :(

Wow - thank you Kapri and all others for doing what you have. It did not know it was at this stage. Stopping, without banning. Are these things 'consensual' though ? Happy to inform others via social media - will keep my eyes peeled. Thank you.
