The infamous 'Custom Car Fiesta' of 1977.

Hated by the purists for it's front wheel drive, it was designed as a promotional vehicle for Ford for the new Fiesta,
and spawned the Fiestavan - but it was of it's time and part of UK Custom Car history - and mine too.
I'll be starting with a RARE Spanish-made Scalextric car in 1/32nd scale,
but as I have several builds on the go at the moment, I don't know when it'll be finished.
Modifications are easy, as Ford didn't want the lines of the car messed with - but generally are :
Bonnet bulge following the existing swage lines,
Side Rear Windows need panelling in with Portholes added,
and the Front Spoiler requires deepening.
..plus rear arches made to cover the Dragslots (originally they were to be box flared).

The slot car body sides should be near vertical, and not taper in towards the sill, so that needs correcting.
Panel painting may be easier as decals - but I'm still in the decal experimenting stage.
...and I need to perfect that, to copy the side murals.

...and wheels - I'll need to find suitable items - slots and centerlines.....I'll add more as I get going. :D

I prefer 1/24th scale, but as I don't know anybody with a 3D PRINTER to copy the body,
I guess I'll have to stick to this 1/32nd. :shake:

So did you buy it from CC Ron or involved in the build? As I know you have bought resin casting materials, you could copy the body so you don't have to cut the Scalextric car up! And on the truck model forum, Mossie now has a scanner which could be used to design a 1/24th version but I have no idea how much THAT would cost!!

....as requested ! :D

I designed the car and won the competition Andrew - pocketing £500 in the process,
and I spent a couple of days at Chris Boyle's in Bournemouth Airbrushing the murals.
The cartoon characters, balloons etc., were sprayed in cellulose with outline detailing using a Rotring pen and ink,
fireworks then added and lacquered over.......never got to meet the blonde in the photoshoot ! :shake:

Yep Andrew - the famous Ron Giles !
I've made enquiries with Mossy about scanning and printing - just waiting for a reply.
Thanks

I'll have a bit of a search for a 1/25th scale Diecast and see if I can mould one if I can,
before having a go at the slottie, RH

Hello Bri - your memory hasn't gone yet, I see.
Incidentally, my son has just bought a '65 Bug today, off Frankie Knowles's son
- another old Ex-Cleveland Cruiser... :D

That'll be Mark's old Beatle. You should come to the OK diner tonight, the weather forecast is good for tonight so there should be a good turnout. I'm getting the Vette out for the first time this year

That's the one Bri.
The beetle doesn't have a test and is currently SORN, so we wouldn't be coming over in that.

Didn't know the OK Diner meets had started yet, but doubt I'll be there tonight,
- not in my Golf I won't, while you lot flash off your sexy cars !
...but I'll be over sometime and meet then...I just need to get myself something decent to turn up in. :D

....it was nice to find one with zero rust Andrew. :D

I was enthusiastic at the beginning of the week about building the Fiesta, but now I'm not too sure, for instance:

1) The slot car body isn't correct - the roof is too short and the bonnet too long - that is apart from the none too straight body sides.
Check out the better proportioned Solido/Vanguard Fiesta.
2) Chopping up a slot car that I have seen go for £80 (mint/boxed) bothers me.
3) I've checked the internet to see if there are any 1/25th scale diecasts out there that I could make a mould from - but not found any.
4) I have made enquiries for rescaling to 1/25th scale and 3D printing it, and the cost is in the hundreds.
5) I've even thought about scratchbuilding - but I don't have the patience.

In short - I'm putting it on hold !

Put a search on eBay with notifications if one of the 1/25th diecasts comes up. I got a MK1 Escort that way (must get that copied one day!)

I haven't stopped searching, because I want to do the build one day.
If I can get a good copy and mould, I can do replicas of my two old Fiesta club-rally cars,...and a Fiesta van.

Mk1 Escort 24th scale...??
