under 3200 lbs use the glide.. you can make very good power with a small block, but an equally tuned big block makes more.. pays your money and makes your choice.. it really depends on what you want to do with it.. i know that i would build a sbc and use a overdrive box as the 6 pound gallon is coming and you would get more fuel mileage
I would stick with a small block as its lighter , the parts are more available and cheaper and fuel economy is better and if you want big capacity there are some good' stroker ' combinations if you want to go down that road...
For gearbox I would use a th350 for road use [a modified powerglide can work on the strip but its a specialist job for experts and unless you are building a strip only car not worth it.
The way gas prices are going I would be thinking about a 700 r4 or 200r4 overdrive box.
