Not been home a lot lately,
been spending LOTS of late nights and weekends at Andy 'Fred' Hones workshop upgrading his chassis,
those that dont know, Fred's car is the ex Al packman granada scorpio,
previously running sixe's in pro-mod, fred has ran the car successfully for several years in the restricted super-modified class,
the car has a 7.50 chassis tag on it, even though the chrome-moly tube layout is correct the chassis was built many years back in Sweden with metric diameter tube, with a lots of tubes being slightly undersize,
even though the car had run sixes, it was not eigable for the current 25-1e pro-mod type tag,
of the first 3 meetings Fred ran this year, he was disqualified from two for running in the 7.40s, below his 7.50 tag,
decision time.
sell the car?
build a new chassis?
answer, the car has always worked well,
although still a big job, cut out all the offending tubes and replace with new,
basically, all the tubes from main hoop forwards to the dash bar,
the WHOLE! middle of the car,
pre chop-up pic,
stripped out ready for the body to come off, about 25th may,
locked down on the jig with the middle cut out,
crap phone pics,
main hoop and roof halo bar tacked in,
the jig tacked in is to duplicate the screen tube locations,
you can just see the bracketry that duplicates the existing 4 link location,
what no steering wheel!
these were taken last night after all the frame was finally welded and released from the jig,
3/16" moly 4 link plates with 1/8" plates welded around bolt areas,
still a lot of smaller jobs left, refit pedals, lenco mounts, prop loop,
firewall and floor, rewire,
hopefully with all the help promised it's still looking like Fred may make the meeting at the end of september:tup:
