So we're approaching the rolling chassis stage.

Just thinking ahead, it would be super dooper if we could actually roll the chassis once we're at this stage. Trouble is that two of the four wheels are not inflatable. One has a punchure (or wont seal around the rim, not sure which), the other has a buggered valve.

So am wondering, what is the cheapest/easiest way to get them inflated?

Has anyone used that tyre weld stuff? if so, would that be adequate for our purposes?

Bearing in mind, its only for the sake of having a rolling chassis, not driving. We wont be using them as the final wheels, as we have some new shiny wheels and tyres for that. We really dont want to unwrap the shiny ones until all the messy work and painting is complete.

Why not just get the puncture repaired/bead cleaned on one and get a new valve for the other .You can buy a new valve at any tyre place , they're not expensive- just the valve itself or complete stem assembly and the puncture repair shouldn't be that dear either , if it's just a rusty flaky bead it'll be even cheaper . Certainly be cheaper than tubes anyway I would think

At least then you won't have to keep blowing them up every few days or whatever every time you want to move the chassis .

why would you want to do a bodge like expanding foam or tyre weld - get the tyres sorted properly, for all it would take.

Yeah, its just for a rolling chassis.

Before we got the truck, it had apparently been sitting undriven since the seventies (possibly in a pond for some of that, by the state of the rear axle that was on it). So the tyres are pretty knackered to say the least, definitely not for driving on.

Really just looking at the cheapest option to get them inflated, as any money spent is probably wasted. As mentioned, we have new wheels and tyres waiting for when the truck is drivable.

I guess I'll pop along to a tyre shop and see how much they'll charge to sort them out, then go from there.

Unless you know the guy they'll probably not repair the tyres , I'm assuming they might be cracked .
It's a PITA leaving a car that you are working on overnight and having a tyre go down , can cause a lot of damage if you leave a door open for instance .
Tubes wouldn't be too much off ebay and you might manage them in just busting one of the beads loose ?

Whats wrong with some cheap old steels with inflated tyres, there must be something with the same stud pattern or some part worn tyres come to that

If its a slow puncture i use tyre weld or cheap clone, does the job for me

tubes for mock up every time. you can use them on the next project too and up to a point one size fits all. neil.

Put the good wheels on one side and get a coupla long scaffolding planks under the flats on the other side.
Simples.

i have cut 'mockup' wheels from 3/4" plywood in the past. they can be any diameter/pcd/centre bore you need. so if you want to check if a certain tyre height 'looks' right cut one out, bolt it on and look from the side. you can even colour them in for the full effect. neil.
ps they don't go flat either.
