Though I had this problem sorted but its back again, For 2 weeks now I have had the 3.3 Ventora engine in my PB and its been running like a dream, I put the inline filter after the lift pump this time as I thought it might be collapsing under suction before.
Anyway the tank is clean , the vent is not blocked so not vacuming , no sediment in lift pump bowl and the inline filter is clean,
I am going to drain tank again just for piece of mind and check for water , but thinking of putting a old fashoned inline sedement bowl /trap before the lift pump just to see if any crap comes through.
Anybody else had same problems as I`me just about out of ideas.

Cheers Dave

I had a similar problem with my Zodiac (not sure about the Ventura but same carb as the Cresta) I got rid of the inline filter and none return valve that the previous owner had fitted. It made it better but the real fault ended up being a leak in the plastic flexible pipe between the fuel tank and the metal fuel pipe.
Don't no if the Vauxbox has the plastic section tho (sorry about the Vauxbox dig but it is the Law:))

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply, I drained the tank last night and no sign of water or dirt in the petrol, I replaced the flexi section of hose at the rear between the tank and metal pipe + either side of the inline filter, when I put the petrol back in everything worked as it should.
Drove to work this morning and managed to boot it a few times with no probs, checked the lift pump bowl as soon as I parked and it was full to the top so fingers crossed.

Good luck with the F*** , F**d , F*rd, Fuck me I nearly said it LOL

Cheers Dave

If it's running a manual pump I've found that weak valves / diaphragm will allow it to run fine under normal conditions but it fails to supply enough flow when booted.

More investigation needed as it started doing it again on way home last night, think you are right on the pump Kev, when the glass bowl is full to just above the gauze filter and I rev the engine there are a lot of air bubbles but they are not coming from the in side of the pump as you can see the fuel flowing in.
Could it be drawing air from the crankcase ? I have got some spare pumps so will buy a rebuild kit and swap them.

Well think problem could be solved (fingers crossed ) fitted a rebuilt lift pump ,worked so well up with it overfueling the carb , anyway changed the float valve and sorted that.
Done a few runs down the motorway and all seems ok, just got a mid range misfire to sort now, the mixture is fine it ticks over smooth revs and top end fine.
