how hard is narrowing a volvo axle? there is one in my po already and i'd like to loose a few inches each side (3.5")

can anyone recommend anywhere near hertfordshire to do it?

had mine cut down by andy robinson racing he is based between reading and basingstoke

the axle was from a 740

It's quite easy to do it yourself. you have to cut the ends off that hold the bearings on...they're welded on by volvo- shorten the casing,knock the ends back on weld them up...making sure they're lined up and square.you may be better making a jig up-a thick bar to go through axle and machine some spacers to clamp to diff and axle ends to keep it all square..i used MDF for spacers and a scaffold pole for bar.simple really. i have some narrowed volvo shafts im selling:stock resplined and moser.

It seems like you've been down this road before, what is the going rate for having a set of axles resplined? As a Machinist I can do them for myself, I'm just curious about whether it's worth setting up or should I just buy them pre made.
