Got some free play in the steering box, there is an adjuster and lock nut on the side but when I adjust it to get rid of the free play, it has tight spots?

Any advice gratefully recieve

had a mk1 consul that failed the mot because of slop in the box, went back and adjusted it, great untill i went back to the mot place, while i was driving along i turned a corner let go of the wheel as normal but it stayed on lock, i nearily wrote it off,any way it passed the mot and i adjusted it back to were it was, basicaly your box is probably nackered, bus box are cheap i've been told so it maybe best to re place it, there's a worm in side and it wear's more in one spot so as you adjust it gets tight in the less worn area, hope this makes sense:tup:

i was told bus boxes were one of the dearset to replace

Splitty boxes are the dearest as, I believe, unavailable as repro. Later boxes are available from places like Heritage.

there are 3 different types of box ~ split /early bay /late bay

the late bay one's are the cheapest ,but maybe on exchange though ?? , they're also a different shape with different mounting points

it sounds a bit knackered to me

if you've got a picture i should be able to tell you which one you have
