hiya chaps
ive got 2 sets of steel 14" ford 5 stud 4.5 pcd x7"wide rims here 1 set came from a 65/66 mustang and others from a mid 50s galaxie 500 .they all fit the front of my consul mk2 ok but not the rear as the center bore of the wheels is to small .ford consul rims are studcentric so i know the centers of original mk2 rims dont do any work . what im asking is can the centers of the yank rims be bored to fit .which would make the rears hub and studcentric ? i know it takes away the little lip .but the old weller wheels never had a lip center ?and were just flat ,also is there a modern brake calliper that will bolt to original mk2 front leg without messin about as i dont have the gear to fab modded stuff .i do know in oz they mod 80s toyota hilux callipers and fab a bracket .but 80s callipars are thin on the ground,(which model?) well i cant find any .my consul as original front discs and work fine but pads are like rocking horse dump .so i need to try and update it to a calliper that pads are in supply .any help will be a bonus ps ive never been a modder ive always worked to stock parts .but i would rather drive a modded car than have a front drive motionless feature .that i cant get parts for .i would like to mod most of the car with the right tips if poss. ie ,rear shocks instead of arms /front inserts in to the stock legs .if i can pick brains here i can get the right parts needed without wasting time and money (i cant work so budget is a must) im not looking to run at the pod just want a old looking car with available parts . cheers lads wayne

boring the wheel centres is easy, any small engineering firm local to you should be able to do it for you for reasonable cash (i charge £15 a wheel) as for calipers it isnt rocket science to convert something modern to fit, ive done willwood calipers to capri legs, escort calipers to viva legs, nissan 200sx to jaguar. it realy is quite simple but a bit time consuming.

discs and calipers

I'm not 100% sure but I think cortina mk5 discs could be very similar,I have some consul legs here and cortina discs I'll see if they fit,you may then be able to use the calipers too but you'll need brackets to fit them,I'm pretty sure the discs and calipers are the same for escort mk2/capri and cortina.

have a look here http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=9511&highlight=viking

this is the conversion i have done for viking, these are capri legs and willwood disks and calipers. possibly a bit ott for what you want but if you can get an old leg, hub, brake disks and callipers you want to use i can do the rest for sensible cash. if you do look at going this route i would look for the largest you can fit in the wheels and something that is quite easy to source.

are you going to the essex swap meet? if so come find me and wa can discuss options.

I run yank Ford wheels on my MK2. Re the centre bore size difference I just used a 4mm wheel spacers and bolted m up.
Because the end of the half shaft has a tapers down the spacer moves the wheel out to clear the problem.

its hard to quote a price without seeing the job but i do do it as cheap as possible (its a hobby for me not a business), all you need to do is suply the bits you want fitting together. i will be at drayton mannor in may(never miss it) so could catch up then. as for delivery and collection, my mates daughter lives near there so goes regular.

BTW - it's 'good' to see somebody else with MS is flogging away at working on old cars on a budget of £0. All the best with yours - it isn't easy...

good luck to you 2 mate ,true it is hard but more frustrating because ive worked on cars/ engine reconditioning/ body shops blah blah all my life and ive restored a few ,last car i had was a mk2 zodiac (6 years ago ) .i put that back on the road from scratch outside .and sprayed anything that came off in my shed .but when my hands arms n legs started playing up i quit cars ,sold my tools .just thinking the worst will come. then i thought balls to this lark ive got MS it aint got me ,then i seen a mk2 consul looking sad so i gave it a good home started again . and here i am .lol when i can work out how to put pics up here im going to let people see my zodiac .so if anyone see,s a ambo/blue /and white mk2 with steel visor on reg 528PFK at any shows .i sold it to a local guy and i still see it grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (holds hand up ) i did every bit of work on it the paint/engine/box trim/blah blah , cheers anyway

Keep a hold :) Just a (well, 5 actually) Morris/Austin Minor pickup for me with a dull old 1275 engine/type 9/escort axle, but I kid myself it'll get a Zetec one day...
