As there has been many a thread on here about cars of the past and a few have said that one impaticular car got them into the hobby what iconic car and style was it

I past my test in 1990 and by 1991 i owned this

Now which iconic car do you think was to blame

I brought this as an unfinished project but by the time i had taught myself enough of the skills needed it was too late :sniff: For me

I saw a T in Southgate, North London about 1974/5 on the way home from school & that was it. I think it was on its way to Morrelli's. If that was you, its all your fault.

Probably the '71 Mustang Super Cobra Jet 429 that my Dad had.

I can remember going to the Lakeside cruise when I was about 7 years old in it. I can also remember nearly weeing my pants in excitement when he used to start it up in the garage and shake the house out.

I have two moments that stick in my mind . The first car that made a real impact on me was Pinball Wizard , and I'm forever grateful to the people who've owned it over the years for keeping the old girl pretty damn close to how I remember her so I can go all dewy eyed at shows even to this day .

The second would be seeing the CC issue with The Lowflyers in it . At the time I was heavyily into the bike scene and these guys showed me that you could still be a rebel with 4 wheels as well as two . The whole style and ethos behind their cars has never left me to the extent that for me nothing comes close to a trad-style car that has the wheels driven off it . I'm proud to say that some of those guys who inspired me are now my friends , and I can never thank them anough for showing me the way :rule::tup:

Colin Burnham's Red Cal Look Beetle.
Street Machine Dec 85 ( when I was still at school ).
Took me almost 10 years to get something air cooled though.

Also..............

OLY 52.
The satin black Vauxhall Wyvern Kustom ( when it was known as Low Life ).
I remember designing a replica in my head whilst doing my Mercury paper round.
WHERE IS THAT CAR ?
I know its supposed to be in London in a Lock up & hopefully in one piece.

But the very first was when I was in the cubs ( about 7 or 8 years old I suppose ).
My Cub leader had a Black PB Cresta, with shaved door handles, shaved bumpers, tunneled tail pipes, Cool stereo system, yeh I supposed that was it.........way back in the 70's.

When I was about 12('74),I found a load of car mags on a rubbish tip.Full of stuff like 'The Boston Strangler','Orange Crate' etc.
Also,at the time,I lived round the corner from tha American Car Centre,in Kingston,Surrey.Remember their yard full of Mach 1's etc.Used to walk round and just stare at the motors for hours.

First love in early 70's was my old mans 1600e - bottle green with wooden dash, his mates roman bronze mk 1 capri, then me dad had the first fiesta round our way in 1977 (he was foreman in ford dealership), after that mk 2 escort in 78, then granada ghia x in 79 ya de ya....change of tact
during that time ,we had a neighbour into Mk1 sporting escorts, and very close to us was a guy with mk 3 zody...ermine white, twin flexi aerials and lion rampants (im a jock) on each rear quarter..WOW everyone admired that car...cool car...cool guy, quiff and everything :)

anyway, roll on few years and next door neighbour has a purple metallic mk 1 3L GXL capri with side pipes when every one else was into RS 2000's..fk way cooler than everyone else...this is about the same time i seen the lilac consul capri with the chrome drawer knobs on the grille in sheet machine... must have been 85, thats stuck in my memory forever, then my brother started to build his pop and i was hooked...Shug Hanchard came by to see us one day in a mk 2 zody to check out what was going on before he went to states... what a great looking car he was in, i was too young to recall many mk 2's on the road, more Crestas round my way......gotta get one of those mk 2 zodies one day, i thought.............
I did in 95 :) 302'd zody - 2512 NG (where is it now) best car ever, and i sold it 2 years ago due to moving house :shake:...........

To summarise - Inspired by many early fords :rule: will have a consul capri 1500GT one day :)
Guy round my way has a very early KOO registered Capri... + my brother is building a very cool mk 2 zeph so the fix is still there when needed....

going through a yank phase at the moment, kustom / sled next.................
then back to some classic british tin
