I did a while ago , never again , not saying all people are the same though .
I sold a pulsar gtir not a lot of money but got £1000 deposit on PayPal rest cash on collection then I had email etc saying PayPal wanted there £1000 back because
PayPal pay you the money straight away then they draw the money from buying , if there don't have it in there bank there going to get it back off of you.
So I was a £1000 light for my car , kept ringing his mobile no answer etc he knew what he had done , police did not want to know as its a civil mater .
But then I remembered he rung me from a land line once to confirm PayPal payment , the stupid sod rung me from his work phone , a taxi company , so rung it got an address etc . Popped up there with a lorry a few good mates and got car back. Didn't give him his money back either sod him.
Just be very careful why can he not do a bank transphere then when it's clear in your bank 3-5 days later let the car go.

Not saying this will be the case but I was had for not a lot of money , yours is a lot more .

Thanks Dazza. the car is going to Washington, the guy works on an oil rig (or so he says), I just cant help feeling theres more to this than meets the eye. Although he seems ok with me withdrawing the money from paypal into my own bank account before the car go's.
Not much is moving at the mo, and it is a good chance to move the Camino on and onto another project

Also Paypal will want their comission if he ticks the goods box. If it's sent as a gift, no commision, and I don't believe they can take money back unless it's for goods.
Don't see why he can't use BAcs or internet banking to transfer all done online without the need to visit the bank, and he must have web access to use paypal

bank transfer has to be the way to go, real genuine money straight to your bank account.
Should be able to sort it easy either with your name, sort code and account number. Let him have these details and he can send it straight to your account. have had money done with these details before, if he says he can't do it with these details look at the top of your bank statements for an IBAN number, if he's in USA he might use that number, just make sure in all cases....he gets the details exact !!!

Don't do it, if I remember correctly claim back is 120 days after the expected arrival of the goods, so add on the time to ship and the guy to recieve the item to that 120 days. Also the commission on 19k then the transfer commission if you don't have paypal coupled to your current account will add even more lost money.
Him sending as a gift means he has to pay the commission at his end but I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere or get him to do the funds differently.

So a few of us agree Terry. Please think very carefully on this one as although the temptation to move on is great that is what the scammers rely on. Walk away.

Also try the guys name in Google with combinations of words like scam, car sale etc.

One more thing to add. My Brother is pretty clued up when it comes to buying/selling. He just bought a guitar from a forum. Paid by bank transfer, spoke to the guy on the phone, did it all by the book. The bank assured him it was safe. Was it f*ck, it was a scam.

Sounds like a scam to me as well, sorry. Cash or bank transfer ( not bankers draft. Wanting to pay for the shipping is icing on the cake. The topper on that is he usually overpays and asks for you to give the shipper the overpay in cash!!

Someone who works on an oil rig in Washington USA, where it wouldn't be difficult to source a similar vehicle, wanting to pay by paypal. Well that fires up all four lights on my BS detector.

Paypal will automatically revoke the payment from you at the meerest hint of an issue at his end. For that amount of cash it would have to be a direct bank transfer or cash-money.

Please don't carry on with this transaction. If it looks like a scam, smells like a scam then it's a scam.

Subject: I was just about to make the payments for the 1959 El Camino
To: capriac@hotmail.co.uk

I was just about to make the payments when I had a little problem with the Picking-Up Agent of the 1959 El Camino ,Has i explained to you earlier that I am currently on sea and I am buying the 1959 El Camino for my dad,I tried to book a Pick-up with my shipping agent,But they asked me to Pay first before they can made the Booking, and they only Accept Western Union Money Transfer for their payment's and they don't accept PayPal or bank Transfer and I tried to send the Money Online but i could not and I am on sea and there is no way i can find a Western Union Agent to make the transfer to my Pick-up agent,So i wanted to ask if it was okay for me to include my Pick-up agent's fees in the payment's I am about to send through PayPal,my pick up agent charged is £850 plus Insurance and some other document for the pick-up,please can i include their money in the payments I want to send then after i have made the payments you will help me forward the £850 to my pick up agent through Western Union Money Transfer, this I would have done myself and not bother you but for the fact that I am currently on sea, so after I have made the payments you will help me send £850 to my pick up agent through western union money transfer,I just wanted to seek your consent before going ahead with the payments,I will more than appreciate if you mail me back, and I will be made the payments shortly......Awaiting your response soonest

PS:the shipping company's Head quarters is in England and any pick up fees to be paid is sent to their head quarters by the payee, so the money for pick up will be sent to their head quarters in England through western union money transfer(this can be done from any post office) or you can do it online at www.western union.com

Regards.

Well after reading that email I'm convinced it's legit...

Never met an American yet who didn't write or sound like a Nigerian. I take it he's "at sea"?? Best stay there.

Seriously, Walk Away. Definite SCAM.
