Ok stuff the government, the benefit grabbers, the extremists (assholes), why not look at what we do have, after all we have more history in Stratford on Avon then in the whole of the USA (please dont quote me on that). It may be difficult because we are a tiny island with not a lot going on, but i will have some of THIS:

Followed by, some of THIS:

I agree.

There is so much that gets moaned about, etc. But people often miss the good that is about.

Even simple things like our hobby.

In South Africa LHD is banned, those that have them, can keep them, but no imports the last few years.

In Germany , in theory no modifications.... TUV testing is tough.

Even the Towbar on my Bus is permitted, because it was originaly built with the bus. Sure people build mad cars there too, and bend the rules, but always have to look over their shoulders.

The list goes on and on and on.....

I agree, we do have a lot to be thankful for here.

Irony, Sarcasm, a genuine sense of humour, Black Pudding, fried bread, bread & dripping, we invented most stuff that's worthwhile, we used to own the World, The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Biggins, Oasis, Su Pollard, an uncanny abillity to speak ANY language in the World simply by raising our voice.

We have more history than most other countries, the only volentary fighting force in the word, the life boat society, Old age pension, the Royal family, well the Queen anyway but the list goes on and on, rodsnsods this is a great country :smoke:Jeff

Sometimes you have to go abroad to appreciate what we have....

a holiday in Greece, a child gets into trouble off the beach, no lifeguards there, but holidaymakers do what they can, including applying their first aid knowledge, presuming that a paramedic or the ambulance will arrive soon. No helicopter rescue, no ambulance,... 4 hours later a Dr. arrives in time to pronounce the child dead. The locals had a very matter of fact attitude towards events,... they knew no better and they were used to such events..

What a superb thread!

I know a number of people that got fed up with Great Britain and buggered off to another country and are having a great time, but I've lost count of the number of people I know that have emigrated and lived to regret it, so we must be doing something right!

Morcombe & Wise Christmas specials, The Two Ronnies Christmas specials, Peter Sellers, the Cortina, in fact anything to have come out of Fords' Dagenham plant [even the Corsair] British films, pickled eggs, our willingness to allow Polish people to plumb our bathrooms, being able to flush our used bog roll.

i feel i must agree with most of the things that al ( hemi bucket ) has mentioned, maybe with the exception of bovril and pork scratchings, also food wise you cant wack anything hot with pastry around it from a good old british bakers, especially a good cornish pasty and really anything from a chip shop, why do i keep getting back to food !
